How to Book a Haircut Appointment Without Calling

Most barbers and salons take bookings online now. Here's where to look, what to have ready, and what to do when the shop is walk-in only.

To book a haircut appointment without calling, tap Book on the shop’s Google listing or use the booking link in its Instagram bio. Chains like Great Clips let you check in online.

Fastest way:

  1. Search the shop in Google Maps and tap Book.
  2. No button? Use the shop’s booking link (website or Instagram bio).
  3. Chain salon? Check in online.
  4. Nothing online? DM the shop (templates in step 4).

1. Tap “Book” on Google

  1. Search the barbershop or salon in Google Maps or Google Search.
  2. Tap Book on the listing.
  3. Choose a service and time, then confirm.

The button shows up only when the shop’s booking system is connected. No button? Tap the listing’s Website link, since many shops put their booking page there.

2. Book a haircut appointment without calling in an app

Most independent barbers and stylists use one of these:

  • Booksy for barbers
  • Vagaro or Fresha for salons and nails
  • StyleSeat for solo stylists
  • Square Go or the shop’s own Square booking page

You don’t need to pick: the shop’s booking link tells you. Booksy also lets you reschedule or cancel in the app.

Some apps ask you to pick a service by hair length, because longer hair takes more time. Picking the right one keeps you from getting bumped.

3. Check in online at chains

Chain salons often run a live waitlist instead of appointments. With Great Clips Online Check-In:

  1. Open the Great Clips app or website and find a salon.
  2. Check the estimated wait.
  3. Enter your name, party size and phone number.
  4. Opt in to a text when your wait is about 15 minutes.

You don’t need an account. This is a spot in today’s line, not a set time. If you’re late, the salon may move you back.

Other chains have their own versions. Look for Check in or Join waitlist on the chain’s site or app.

4. Check Instagram: link in bio or DM

A lot of barbers live on Instagram. Check the profile first:

  • Link in bio: often goes straight to Booksy, Square or another booking page.
  • Story highlights: look for ones labeled “Prices,” “Booking” or “Hours.”
  • Pinned posts: may say “walk-ins welcome” or “appointment only.”

No booking link? Send a DM with these details:

What to put in your DM

  • Service: haircut, fade, beard trim, color, blowout, kids’ cut
  • Hair length and type: short, shoulder-length, long, curly, thick
  • Stylist or barber: a favorite, or “anyone”
  • Two or three time options
  • Extras: first visit, a reference photo, or anything the stylist should know

Barbershop DM or text:

Hi! I'd like to book a men's haircut and beard trim with [barber name].
My hair is short on the sides, about 3 inches on top.
Could you do Thursday after 5 pm or Saturday morning?
First time visiting. Thanks!

Salon DM or text:

Hi! I'd like to book a cut and blowout with any stylist who's free.
My hair is shoulder-length and curly.
Could you do Thursday after 5 pm or Saturday morning?
Thanks!

5. Walk in

Some old-school shops don’t take appointments at all. First come, first served. Before you go, look for:

  • walk-in hours on the Google listing
  • a recent post about how busy it is or early closing
  • reviews that mention typical wait times

6. When there’s no online option

Some great barbers have no app and no website. You can stop by and ask, or have Reqly ask for you. It asks the shop and texts you back the live answer, like whether it takes walk-ins today. Here’s what that looks like:

Do you take walk-ins today? Just need a fade.

Later

Yes, walk-ins until 6 pm today. About a 30-minute wait right now.

Frequently asked questions

Is online check-in the same as an appointment?

No. Check-in puts you on the salon's waitlist for today, so your spot depends on the line. An appointment reserves a specific time with a specific stylist.

How do I book with a barber who only uses Instagram?

Tap the link in their bio first, since many barbers put a booking page there. If there's no link, send a direct message with the service, the day you want and a couple of time options.

What should I say when booking a haircut?

Say the service, roughly how long your hair is, the stylist if you have one, and two or three times that work. That's usually enough to get a yes in one reply.

How can I find out if a barber takes walk-ins today?

Check their Google listing and social pages for posted walk-in hours. If nothing is posted, message them, stop by, or have Reqly ask the shop for you.

Can Reqly book the haircut for me?

Reqly gets you the shop's answer, like open times or the walk-in wait. To lock in a specific time, the shop may still want to add you to its own book.
