Fox and Lion Bread

Fox and Lion Bread is a Bayview micro bakery and cafe at 5273 3rd St, built around house-baked artisan sourdough with a full lunch menu. Founder Xan DeVoss grew it out of a subscription bread service and opened the retail space in 2015 inside the shared Butchertown Gourmet storefront with Gratta Wines.

The daily specialty breads are the main event, with four-grain sourdough on Tuesdays, bagels on Saturdays, and cinnamon rolls at breakfast. Lunch runs all week with soups, salads, and specialty sandwiches named after neighborhood regulars, like the Mary's special.

Every Friday from 5 to 8 PM, with slices most of the day and full pies on the evening menu, plus beer and wine. Pickup and dine-in are both available.

It is a small, affordable, community-rooted cafe with free wifi and street parking, and it works well as a laptop spot over a cold brew. The menu leans organic and locally sourced, with vegetarian and vegan options plus craft beer and natural wine.
